An Affordable, Beautiful Place To Live An Affordable, Beautiful place to live Expensive homes line Kitsap Peninsula's many miles of shoreline. Most other properties, however, are relatively affordable. As commuting becomes more difficult on the other side of Puget Sound, riding ferries becomes more viable. People are moving to the West Sound, where they can get more home and property for their money. Kitsap's real estate market, buoyed by 11 interest-rate cuts, bucked last year's recession. Some 3,753 homes were sold, up 9 percent from 2000. The median price rose 6.2 percent, from $146,000 to $155,000. Subtract Bainbridge and prices in the rest of Kitsap County are even more attractive. Median home prices in North Kitsap were $179,500, $152,000 in Central Kitsap, $143,900 in South Kitsap and $109,950 in Bremerton. These events along with a low inventory of homes for sale have placed Kitsap County into a BUYERS market. Of the 18 Kitsap areas tracked by the Northwest Multiple Listing Service, only two saw dips in median home prices from 2000 to 2001.

Remodeling and Renovations >Kitchen Catastrophe
You have found an almost perfect house--the right number of bedrooms and baths, a wonderful family room, a great back yard. Your pulse rate increases as you imagine your furniture in the living room, your "excess" neatly stored in the huge attic, and your tulip bulbs blooming in the garden. However, the kitchen looks like it was built long before conveniences like dishwashers or microwaves.
If you have fallen in love with a house with an outdated or unattractive kitchen, you should consider renovating it. Contact a contractor for expert advice during the structural contingency period. Re-doing a kitchen can be a major undertaking, especially if you move walls around. If you put in new appliances, cabinets, and flooring into the existing space, it can be done in a shorter period of time and for a small fraction of the cost. Kitchen improvements are considered excellent investments.
